2nd Year B’nei Mitzvah: Shabbat & Havdalah

To learn about Shabbat & Havdalah, we are…

  • Discussing what it means for us to rest, and what we would like to take a break from on a weekly basis.

  • Debating what relaxation looks like to us, plus asking other Shabbat questions. 

  • Discussing different Jewish quotes and relating them back to Havdalah and Shabbat. 

  • Listening to the Havdalah blessings and holding a mock Havdalah ceremony.

5th Grade: From Generation to Generation

To learn about matriarchs, patriarchs, and L’Dor V’Dor (from generation to generation), we are…

  • Playing a group game to create a visual representation of L’Dor V’Dor, showing the power of passing down our ideas and traditions. 

  • Reviewing and reflecting on the stories of our matriarchs and patriarchs from the Torah through stories and skits, and discussing the values that they passed down to us. 

  • Creating our own family trees and discussing the things we have learned from different family members.

4th Grade: Deepening Our Understanding of Simchat Torah

To learn about Simchat Torah, we are…

  • Going over different cycles in Judaism – like the Jewish year – and learning how Simchat Torah demonstrates the cycle of reading the Torah. 

  • Discussing the different things that bring us joy in our lives, since Simchat Torah is a joyous holiday!

  • Pretending to be a Sofer Setam (scribe of the Torah)  and writing lines from the beginning and end of the Torah.

3rd Grade: Exploring Simchat Torah

To learn about Simchat Torah, we are...

  • Comparing the Torah to things in our everyday life – like books that we have read – to get a sense of how long it takes to read, and how big it is. 

  • Watching videos of people celebrating Simchat Torah. 

  • Having a Simchat Torah dance party, since Simchat Torah is meant to be a celebratory and joyous holiday!
