2nd Year B’nai Mitzvah: Israel’s Founding

  • Seeing a timeline of the cultures and leaders who have ruled Israel throughout history, learning the definition of Diaspora, and using a world map to depict where all our relatives and ancestors have dispersed from Israel, around the world.

  • Exploring in depth about each historical era in Israel.

  • Playing a group quiz game about Israel history facts. 

  • Learning about Israel’s mandatory draft when citizens turn 18, and writing letters to Israeli soldiers.

1st Year B’nai Mitzvah: Learning & Helping

To learn about the Jewish value Talmud Torah (Jewish learning) & Tzedakah (Justice or Righteous Giving), we are...

  • Determining our individual learning styles, and discussing what areas of study in Judaism we are individually passionate about.

  • Watching a video about tzedakah, and discussing the “8-step tzedakah ladder”, which details different types of tzedakah.

  • Thinking of things we are passionate about and charities that we could give tzedakah to then activating our Jewish value of learning to delve deeper into that topic. 

  • Brainstorming ways we can give tzedakah and filling out “My Tzedakah Plan” sheets to help us make our goals into realities.

5th Grade: Not Gossiping

To learn about avoiding gossip we are…

  • Playing several games that illustrate why gossiping is harmful to ourselves and others.

  • Creating metaphors about gossip and discussing them as a group. 

  • Creating a group agreement to outline a plan for encouraging positive speak, and what to do when we encounter gossip.

  • Why is it important that we create new habits around gossip?


4th Grade: Fixing The World

To learn about tikkun olam (repairing the world), we are…

  • Discussing what kinds of problems exist in the world, what we could do to work towards fixing them

  • Reading some rabbinical thoughts on what our responsibility is to fix problems in the world.

  • Playing a tikkun olam bingo game of ways we can solve the problems in the world.

3rd Grade: Doing Tzedakah

To learn about tzedakah, we are…

  • Playing a recipe game to show how the “ingredients” we put in are like the skills we have and use to work together.

  • Creating comic strips featuring our own tzedakah heroes!

  • Thinking critically about how we can give tzedakah with and without money.

2nd Grade: We Can Make A Difference

  • Playing a Charitable Guessing Game about local organizations that we could give tzedakah to.
