1st Year B’nei Mitzvah: Taking Care of Ourselves & Others

To learn about the Jewish value of Betzelem Elohim (being made in the image of Gd) & Kavod HaBriyot (Respect for all People), we are... 

  • Doing fun group games to illustrate the idea of being created in someone’s imagine, since “Betzelem Elohim” means being created in the image of G-d. 

  • Discussing the idea that Sh’mirat Habriyut means that we have to take care of ourselves and our health, and working together to create a self-care wheel.

  • Playing group games that teaches us about what connects all of us, and how to respect and appreciate our differences.

  • Learning many different ways to show others respect, by acting respectfully, helping others, building unity, and thinking positively of others.

  • Challenging ourselves to find a Kavod HaBriyot mitzvah to make our own, and perform for the whole rest of the week.

5th Grade: The Story of Joseph

  • Acting out the story of Joseph as we read it and discussing our own relationships with our siblings, and the conflicts that sometimes arise between siblings.

  • Playing a game of Pictionary with clues related to the story of Joseph.

  • Discussing the importance of forgiveness in the context of the story of Joseph and sharing positive results of forgiveness in our own lives.

4th Grade: Jewish Patriarchs & Matriarchs

To learn about Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, and Rebecca, we are…

  • Brainstorming what qualities we think are important in a leader.

  • Watching video and re-enacting the stories of Abraham and Sarah and Isaac and Rebekah, and comparing the themes of these stories to our own lives.

  • Writing and illustrating stories based on the themes that we identify in the stories of our matriarchs and patriarchs, including generosity, hospitality, and kindness.

3rd Grade: Who was Abraham & Sarah?

  • Hearing a story about Sarah and Abraham’s hospitality, and discussing their position as role models for the Jewish people. 

  • Creating our own versions of Sarah and Abraham’s tent, including quotes that represent Abraham and Sarah’s character traits.

  • Playing charades related to facts about different sects of Jews.
