We know school and afterschool programs, including ours, will likely look different in the fall than they have in the past. We will continue to monitor events and adjust our programming, transportation, and class size as necessary to keep our students, teachers, and families safe and healthy.

A Day at JKG Afterschool

While every day at JKG Afterschool brings new adventures and specifics
vary by location, most days follow a schedule that looks like this:

JKG%2BJan%2B2019-1.jpg

Monday-Thursday

2:30-2:45 - JKG teachers greets your child at school and brings them to JKG.

2:45-3:30 - Children arrive and unwind in the way they feel most comfortable. It’s like they are walking into their own home!
Some kids head outside while others play a game with a friend, start on homework, or color independently.

3:30-3:50 - Snack time (nishnushim)! Students enjoy a healthy snack like pita chips and hummus, fruit, or veggies. We say the blessing, talk with teachers and friends, and listen to stories.

3:50-4:20 - Time to learn Hebrew (Ivrit)! You won’t see JKG teachers standing in front of a chalkboard. Our interactive lessons inspire students to learn Hebrew through sports, art, and games.

JKG Jan 2019-5.jpg

4:20-4:30 - Each day we come together in a community circle (z’man kehila) to sing songs, give shout outs to friends for doing good things, and celebrate birthdays.

4:30-5:00 - Students learn about Jewish culture, holidays, values, history, and traditions through art, cooking, sports, gardening, drama, and other fun activities.

5:00-5:15 - Playground time (hasakah)! Let’s go outside.

5:15-6:00 - Students do homework (she’uray bayit) or finish up the day with an independent choice activity like rainbow loom, play dough, or watercolor painting.

6:00 - It’s time to go home. Parents pick up students at each JKG location. Shalom!

3:30-3:50 - It’s time to celebrate Shabbat! Everyone comes together in a circle (Shabbat z'man kehilah) to say the blessing over candles, grape juice, and challah. Yum! We sing songs and share our successes and challenges from the week.

3:50-4:10 - We split up into different age groups and teachers lead informal discussions while everyone enjoys a snack.

4:10-4:40 - Our Friday activities (peulot) focus on Jewish values. We may decorate cards for sick children, pack hygiene kits for the homeless, or tend to the garden. Sometimes we even make challah!

4:40-5:00 - Playground time (hasakah)! Let’s go outside.

5:00 - It’s time to go home. Parents pick up students at JKG. Shabbat Shalom!
