JKG Sunday takes the love and enthusiasm kids feel at summer camp and incorporates it into Hebrew school. Sunday sessions are action-packed and content-rich. Students learn to read Hebrew, explore Israeli culture, celebrate Jewish holidays, and build friendships, all in an engaging, joyful environment.
We focus on:
Jewish Holidays
Jewish Values & Ethics
Cultural Literacy and Jewish Identity (Israel, Torah Stories, and Jewish History)
Hebrew Vocabulary, Decoding, and a Positive Association with Hebrew
JKG Sunday has a spiraled curriculum which introduces topics in different ways with increasing difficulty throughout the years. The curriculum is careful to advance in sophistication as children gain knowledge and understanding.
Hebrew at JKG
JKG students have different experiences in Hebrew based on the grade they are in.
Preschool-Kindergarten: Hebrew vocabulary is mixed into our lessons and focuses on fostering a positive association with the Hebrew language.
1st-3rd: Hebrew lessons focus on basic vocabulary acquisition in a camp-like way through games, activities, and songs
4th-7th: Students separate into groups based on their levels that range from learning the Hebrew alphabet, to decoding, to basic conversational Hebrew.
I want my kids to attend, but I don't belong to a synagogue. Is that okay?
YES! JKG parents are a special group. They linger after drop-off, they show up early to chat on the front porch, they connect on the playground. They leave JKG and head for the local coffee shop, only to run into other JKG parents. Some families belong to a synagogue, some do not. We are a community because we want to be one, and our community-wide events (like Shabbat potluck dinners) foster friendships between families.
When is JKG Sunday?
JKG Sunday Calendar follows the Atlanta Public Schools calendar. JKG Sunday is not in session on days when APS is closed including Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, teacher work days, and other national holidays. JKG Sunday observes Jewish religious holidays and is closed on major Jewish holidays such as Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
